People ought to concentrate on "curing" mental ailments like depression, addiction, and neuroticism at least as much as cancer in all of its forms; it's worse to live in mental anguish than to die contented.

What Is Mormonism?

(For extra spiritual effect, please play one of the following pieces of beautiful music as you read):

Mormons, also known as Latter Day Saints or members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, believe a great many things, but the purest, simplest, yet fullest way to explain them that I can conjure is thus: We believe that God loved us, His children, so very much that he sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to Earth to atone for all of mankind’s sins so it would be possible for us to repent so that we could one day return to live with Him in His kingdom with our families for eternity in joy and love. We believe that, relatively soon after Jesus Christ’s resurrection, the Priesthood– the power of God given to select men to act in His name– was taken from the earth along with the apostles and prophets, that the church collapsed, and that parts of the truth in the Bible were lost or changed with no true authority or direction from God. We believe that in the early 19th century Joseph Smith Jr. was visited by Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father and eventually appointed a prophet by Them to restore the true Church and Priesthood authority to the earth. We believe that a people once inhabited what is now North and South America whose descendants are what are known today as Native Americans, that these people were guided by God out of Jerusalem to inhabit this land, that their prophets and historians left records written on gold plates behind concerning their belief in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and their eventual fall into darkness and their ultimate destruction. We believe that this record was given to and translated by Joseph Smith Jr. only by and through the power of God to complete the fragments of truth found in the Bible with the full and pure truth that was left untouched on these plates, which were translated into what is known as the Book of Mormon. We believe that God speaks through prophets, that a prophet leads our Church today, and that a prophet will always be appointed by God to lead our Church. We believe that, through faith and devotion to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and by following Their commandments, true happiness and peace can and will bloom in lives of individuals, lives of families, and lives of communities, and that through this faith and service to God, we can be saved and return to live with Him again one day with our families.

I promise that all of this that we believe is true and that if you really ask Heavenly Father if this is all true– really desiring to know if He’s really there, dispelling whatever doubts you may have– He will tell you in your mind and your heart that it is true.

I’m somewhat of a windbag, so those above paragraphs probably could have been much more condensed. Still, if I’ve spiked your interest in learning more about this wonderful Church, our Savior Jesus Christ, the Book of Mormon, how your family can be sealed to be together not only for this life but for all of eternity, then you can send me a message with your questions. I’d be happy to hear from you (even if you’re not interested in Mormonism). I also recommend you visit this site to request missionaries to visit you and to request a copy of the Book of Mormon (did I mention that the book’s free?), not to mention learn more about the Latter Day Saints, our beliefs, and plenty more right on the site.

Mormon Perfectionist

There are all shapes, sizes, and types of Mormons (or Latter Day Saints), and all of us are vastly different while being basically the same. There are some who aren’t very orthodox and are lax in following the teachings of the prophets at the same time maintaining enough activity to be called active Mormons. On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, there are others who are so orthodox and strict that they begin to make up their own teachings and probably end up less religious and more blasphemous than those who don’t so much about whether they’re doing what’s right or not. Needless to say, no Mormons are perfect.

As for me, I’m what I like to call a Mormon Perfectionist.

Being a perfectionist and a Mormon at the same time has its pros and cons. On one hand, it may be easier to live the teachings of the prophets of the LDS Church when being bent on doing everything right, and it may be easier to keep to the faith even in the face of the fiercest opposition. On the other hand, nobody is perfect, and having the subconscious incorrect ideology that anything less than perfect is therefore wicked can really ruin one’s morale.

Pornography: From Addiction to “Harmless” Jokes and Chick-Flicks, It’s Your Funeral

While I strive to live as aligned as possible with the standards of the LDS Church, what really irks me is pornography in all of its forms. Most people (and many Mormons, unfortunately) think of pornography only as the hard-core stuff found in XXX websites and Playboy magazine. The truth is that that’s only a portion of it: pornography ranges from obviously dirty images to seemingly harmless dirty jokes, and it is my personal opinion that, while hard-core pornography addiction ruins millions of families in and out of the church, the more covertly pervasive disease is that of the common people: the dirty joke and the PG-13 movie for “only” brief nudity or sexual intimacy. It’s been extremely hard for me to deal with people who participate in such garbage– even some friends and associates. It’s been such an opinion in my life that I’ve written many fiery epistles about it. Still, as much as I blow hot air about it, and as much as our prophets warn us, many just don’t seem to get it.
