Fiction
I have a strange obsession with English and literature. Ever since I was a young child, I not only loved to read, but I had a knack for writing. The first documented story of mine that I have on record is a tale of Wishbone (age five), then tales of a robot named Robo (age six), a monkey named Eedie (age seven), a lizard named One-Eyed Jack (age eight), and so on. I soon began copying popular culture and wrote stories that directly paralleled Zelda: Ocarina of Time starring a baboon named Cheeks (age nine). I began to branch out and write stories starring characters based off of and named after my friends (ages ten and eleven), and finally characters who I made from scratch (so forth).
I’ve self-published an anthology containing many of my short stories, opinion pieces, and poetry along with some of the literature of three friends as well as some from long-dead authors from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. My most favored and revered type of literature (aside from the musical type) is imaginative fiction. I love nothing more than writing a riveting tale containing whatever happens to unfold from my mind. I’m currently writing The Imaginations with ideas for a prequel and a sequel, and I’ve a plenitude of ideas to choose from to continue writing fiction after those stories are at last finished. My chosen career path, in fact, is to be a stay-at-home author daddy. My daughter is going to be like the girl who Andy gives his toys to (Bonnie) in Toy Story 3– she will also be like the girl I have dubbed “Madeleine” in Bouguereau’s The Difficult Lesson.
Most of the images intertwined in the theme of this site are actually drawn depictions of my own make from the worlds I’ve created, especially the world of The Imaginations. You may try to guess at what they signify, or you may feel free to email me and request that I send you a section of my writing only in exchange for your criticism. And perhaps an outing to Carl’s Junior or Panda Express. Or Yogurtland. I’m flexible.
Opinion
Today, I have also gotten into the habit of writing opinion pieces– often bold and sarcastic, though I enjoy composing something touching even more. I wrote for the WJHS JagWire for a time and was the opinion and back page editor (I usually wrote every word on the opinion page, actually). I also write for OSNews, a tech news site that concentrates on operating systems. Though I try to keep the facts straight, I share quite a bit of my opinion there, too. This blog is also the home to many opinion pieces.
Poetry
I can’t say I like poetry much. In fact, most of it makes me want to vomit– like the Twilight series. Or Teletubbies. Still, some is very beautiful.
Reading
I love to read, though I don’t get to do much of it these days. To get an idea of the type of books I enjoy most, I love the authors Eoin Colfer, C.S. Lewis, L.M. Montgomery, Robert Louis Stevenson, J.R.R. Tolkien, Brandon Mull, Louisa May Alcott, and Moroni, though there are a plenitude of books in my personal library that are single hits. I intend to tech my children to read at a very young age– as young as humanly possible. Writing is a door that opens to beautiful realms, and reading is the lock on that door. The key lies in the velvet box of parental teaching.
I work at a bookstore, too.
Elsewhere
I do love to intertwine humor and sarcasm into my writing, but, as previously mentioned, my favorite way to write is musically– as in composing my words in such a way that it touches the reader as if he or she was listening to the most beautiful music imaginable. My fiction covers these areas, or at least I’d like to think so.
I also have dabbled in writing comics– you could say I was obsessive over my Martin Duck series. My Eedie of Aberswyth (based off of the original comic I painted when thirteen years old, Roobix of Dingleberry) was a much better series, also written for the WJHS JagWire.
